What Glasses or Contacts Do For Us

  • Glasses require that the eye produces the same degree of refractive error present at the time of eye test. As vision is constantly variable this produces strain, identified by Dr Bates as the cause of vision problems.

  • With good vision eyes are constantly moving. Glasses encourage the eye to look through the centre of the lens fixing the gaze, limiting movement and peripheral awareness, both essential to perfect eyesight.

  • Glasses distort our perception of the world. A minus (short sighted) prescription reduces the image size. A plus (long sighted) prescription magnifies what is seen, the stronger the lens the more the distortion. Both create more strain.
