About Able2See and James Laker

Welcome to the able2see website. My name is James Laker. I came to Natural Vision Education (NVE) six years ago after a lifetime of wearing glasses for long sight and acute astigmatism, my optician told me that my varifocals would no longer accommodate a stronger prescription.

I had read “Better Eyesight Without Glasses” by W H Bates a few years previously, thought that it all made good sense, then forgot about it, I revisited it when told I would need two pairs of glasses, and practiced some of the techniques with a little success and decided that I needed a teacher, who guided me through ‘The Bates Method’. This led to my successful completion of a teacher training course at the College of Vision Education (Bates Method) in North London and to being able to read and drive without glasses!

My careers previously had been in retail, residential care for the elderly and as a specialist carpenter-joiner, all of which gave me great insight into people of all ages from all walks of life.

You will have visited my website because of an interest in NVE. I give a brief introduction into its history and to Dr William Horatio Bates who started it all over 100 years ago. You will be able2see what NVE can do for you. It is not a ‘quick fix’ like glasses or contact lenses, it looks at the person holistically and addresses the underlying cause of vision difficulties in a non invasive manner.
